I know, I know - not another version of A Christmas Carol. But…this one is worth it, I promise! Especially since you can stream it from your home this holiday season.

Director Michael Arden won everyone’s hearts with his visionary direction of the recent Broadway revival of Once On This Island and Deaf West’s Spring Awakening and his direction here is no less visionary in a production he conceived with his regular scenic designer Dane Laffrey. Throw in a ridiculous career-defining performance by Broadway A-lister Jefferson Mays and you’ve got straight-up theatrical magic.

Jefferson Mays’ performance is nothing short of a miracle. He’s the only performer on stage the entire time, playing over 50 characters in such a way that you simply cannot imagine you’re watching just one actor. You can almost see the other characters next to each other and you can most certainly feel them. He’s that good at pulling this off, spectacularly embodying characters and locations in a way that has to be seen to be believed in this legendary performance.

The entire team here has, quite simply, made a triumphant A Christmas Carol. Oh, and did I mention that Sufjan Stevens’ music is used in the production? And, we will always give a shoutout to Tony-winner Nikki M. James, who is the assistant director of this production just like she was with Once On This Island. Heart eyes emoji x2!

Tickets to stream are $50, but very worth it…especially since the production benefits over community and regional theaters all over the country.

A Christmas Carol is available for streaming through January 3.
